Barangay Maomawan, Maomaoan Island, Bien Unido, Bohol

Maomaoan is one of the pocket islands in the north-eastern shoreline of the province of Bohol under the jurisdiction of Bien Unido. As seen geographically, it is evident the only means of livelihood its people could avail of is fishing. Some families though are engaged in mat weaving, sort of a cottage industry, to augment their houselhold income. There is however an abundance of "blue crabs" (lambay/alimasag) within the vicinity of the island's fishing area. They have the best variety of this specific crustacean specy that makes it more in demand at the posh and high-end restaurants in Cebu City and Manila. Dismally though, the opportunity is not exclusive to them because other blue crab fishers from the neighboring islands of Sagasa, Hingotanan and Bilangbilangan also extend their ventures in the area.
