Spanggur Tso is a beautiful lake located in the eastern part of Leh District, Jammu and Kashmir. This saltwater lake of Ladakh region stretches towards the Chinese territory. Spanggur Tso can be approached from Chushul through a gap in the mountains called the Spanggur Gap.

  • I think the Tibetan name of this Spangur Tso is wrong. The highest mountain to the North of this lake and marked here is Matung Nyungtsa. It is 6160 mtrs high. The peaks to the left and right of it are 6160 and 6077 mtrs respectively. No taxis can be hired from Leh to Spanggur tso as it is not in Indian territory now. Even to get to Chushul, which is safely in Indian territory, one will have to get permission from the Dy. Commissioner of Leh. Seldom given to foreigners.
  • The Survey of India has this lake as Spanggur Tso/Pangur Tso.
  • so sad that this lake is under china control
