This viking "castle" was build around 980 AD. The purpose is debated, but probably the castle was used by King Harald "Bluetooth", along with it's sister castles, as a means to solidify his position within the country.
The other castles are Aggersborg, Fyrkat, Nonnebakken, and finally the "other" Trelleborg in what is now Sweden.
