This is the approximate location of Lay's Ferry on the Oostanaula River in 1864. On May 15, 1864, Thomas W. Sweeny's Federal Division crossed the Oostanaula River threatening General Joseph E. Johnston's rear. This resulted in the Confederate abandonment of Resaca.
