The building was built in 1938 by the architect A. N. Zemskov. On Dec. 5, 1938 here was made the first recording (2 nd Hungarian Rhapsody Franz Liszt performed by the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra under the direction of A. Orlov). In 1966, the site was expanded for recording studios - Building 22, was by the architect Y. Ferdman and others.


The building was built on the site of the Church of the Great Martyr George, what-the-fields, the Malaya Nikitskaya street. A stone church of the mid 17th century rebuilt in the late 18th century was closed about 1929 and demolished in 1933 to make way for this building.
