Cooper Union New Academic Building (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / Cooper Square, 41
university, interesting place, movie / film / TV location, Modern (architecture)

Named after Mrs Peter Cooper's family (The Hewitt's). This building had only 2 stories and has a grand entrance. It was demolished and replaced with a modernist building designed in 2006 by Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects.

The exterior building skin is an operable series of perforated stainless-steel panels offset from a glass and aluminum window wall. The panels reduce the impact of heat radiation during the summer and insulate interior spaces during the winter.

The north entrance was used as a filming location for S1E1 of the USA Network show "Suits" when Louis Litt goes to entice a potential client for Pierson Spector. As the pilot episode was shot on location in New York rather than in Canada, it used New York buildings. The offices of the Village Voice newspaper and Cooper Square can be seen in the background.
