Integrated steel mill formerly owned by the Steel Company of Canada, later renamed Stelco. Transferred to US Steel after the Stelco bankruptcy in 2007. One of the last large users of 25Hz power in Ontario.

Hamilton Works (under Stelco it was called Hilton Works) was an integrated steel producer based in Hamilton, Ontario. As a wholly-owned subsidiary in the U. S. Steel Canada group, the mill employed approximately 2200 people and produced 2 million tons of semi-finished steel annually, including 350 thousand tons of basic oxygen furnace bloom-cast billets.

On September 17, 2014, US Steel Canada announced that it was applying for bankruptcy protection and that it would be closing down its Hamilton operations. As of late 2016 the site was under the ownership of USS Canada's successor company, Stelco, which was operating a Galvanizing and Galvannealed sheet steel line onsite.

  • US Steel has closed down. It would be nice to see this whole site turned into mixed residential with shops, condos, and offices. The city could make 10 times the tax revenue by redeveloping it and getting tens of thousands of people living and working there, as well as connect the city to the water again. If anyone remembers Toronto before CityPlace, you'll know that "if you build it they will come", and they came and bought in droves. That development kickstarted the building of over 200+ skyscrapers all over the city. It could happen here too.
