This is the actual area the pilot was trying to fly the Fairchild FH-227D over. It has been outlined in several places, most recently- and explicitly- in the 2010 documentary, "I Am Alive: Nando Parrado’s Story" (www.iamalivethefilm.com/about.htm).

  • I am amazed this has not been better documented. None of these locations add up. Unless of course the mountain dramatically changed shape since 1972. Looking at the "Pilots erogenous course" (or whatever it's called) and seeing how far it is from this impact site, then looking at the resting place of the fuselage makes 0 sense. I am aware there was snow, and many many feet of it, but this is very inaccurate and find it a tad sad that there is no better info available. What did the writers of the movie and documentaries copyright the correct info? Facts from the documentaries state that the fuse slid nearly perfectly down the slope from the impact point. If this is the accurate impact site then the resting place is uphill and would totally discredit the pilots course of direction prior to impact. There was no time to turn too dramatically one he saw the mountains so as it stands (and according to the information in all these links. The pilot was flying north then jumped a mile to hit this impact site but from a heading of approximately 300° (Far off from what I see here). The fuse then somehow was able to glide uphill where all the other information says it went downhill. Just frustrated since I merely want to pay my respects by making a short video but cannot since for some reason the correct coordinates of the events aren't public information. Any other pilot (or someone with any sense of direction) can look at this and see errors in every one of these links.
