Historic former abbey (now an event and conference center) listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Built: 1924-1926
Architect: Joseph Dillon (L.A. Des Jardins Architects - Denver, CO)
Architectural style: Collegiate Gothic; Jacobean Revival influences
Areas of significance: Education; Architecture
Area: 9.2 acres
Also known as: Abbey of the Holy Cross (historic name)
Date added to NRHP: 8/18/1983
Other designations: listed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties
Notes: Until 2005, this complex served as an abbey and educational facility for Benedictine monks. The original abbey building (the red-roofed structure at the east end of the property) was intended to be just one of a large group of buildings planned for this site by the architect. Although only this one building was ever constructed as part of that original plan, the building still holds educational and architectural significance to the history of Cañon City.
