Pajala Church (Pajala)

Finland / Lappland / Kolari / Pajala
 church, lutheran church/kirk

The attractive timber church at Pajala, situated in the eastern part of the town was built in the late eighteenth century and originally located about four kilometres to the east of here, at Kengis but was moved here in 1869, rebuilt and somewhat redesigned. It retains the original 1790s pulpit from Kengis. The church is predominantly influenced by the neo-classical style. The altarpiece is from 1942 and is by Torsten Nordberg. The church was restored and redecorated in the late nineteen nineties, giving it its current warm, welcoming appearance.
