Burhanuddin Upazila (Bhola district) with an area of 284.67 sq km, is bounded by Tentulia river and Daulatkhan upazila on the north, Lalmohan on the south, Tazumuddin upazila on the east, Bauphal upazila on the west. The river Tentulia and Shabazpur Channel are noted.

The location of Burhanuddin town is 22.4937247N 90.7125261E. Burhanuddin (Town) a municipal town, consists of 9 wards and 13 mahallas with an area of 25.66 sq km. It has a population of 9868; male 51.75%, female 48.25%. Literacy rate among the town people is 30.23%. The town has one dakbungalow.

Burhanuddin thana, now an upazila, was established in 1928. The upazila consists of 9 union parishads, one municipality, 3 wards, 46 mouzas and 52 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 208478; male 50.77%, female 49.23%; Muslim 91.75%, Hindu 8.23%, others 0.02%.
