This monument was erected to honour General Sir Isaac Brock who died in the decisive Battle of Queenston Heights in the War of 1812.

Comments

  • The war was not lost by the Americans. It was declared a draw.
  • The Americans lost because the invasion of Canada was repelled and annexation was prevented. After Napoleon's defeat the British were able to free up 1 Million men at arms and the entire British Navy. Britain succesfully invaded Washington DC.
  • The original monument stood from 1824 until April 17, 1840, when Benjamin Lett, an Irish-Canadian Mackenzie sympathizer destroyed the monument with a massive blast of gunpowder. What stands today, is the second monument.
  • Major General Isaac Brock was Provisional Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada (which later became Ontario), and was shot by the invading Americans on October 13, 1812.
