Sinuni is a town founded by the Haskani tribe (Ezidis) in 1910, used as an advanced post to oversee their cultivation in the northern Shingali plains.

Alternative spelling: Sinunê, Sinunî, Sinone, Sinoni, Sinuni, Snuni, Snuny.

Liberated by YPG forces on 4 July 2017:
There were some clashes between the YBŞ and KDP-Peshmerga stationed in the town on 3 march 2017
The Iraqi Army regained a control on the 17th of October, 2017.
