  • I see a whale m'self..actually it appears to be a fissure eruption of some kind that I'm not too familiar with. The dark rock is probably basalt that oozed out from cracks around the perimeter...the feature is probably between 50,000 and 10,000 years old, as are most of the cinder cones and lava fields in this region of the world.
  • Can it be a result of the meteor strike at Winslow?
  • It is neither a fissure eruption nor related to Meteor Crater. This feature is a mesa, the erosional remnant of a lava flow.
