Created in 1966 on the Unriew stream that finally feeds the Umiam Reservoir (Baräpäni), this catchment provides for the military establishment at Upper Shillong.
Overflow from this reservoir flows downstrean (south-west-wards) to the Elephant Falls, and then down to the Wah Umiam, the valley on the west from Mawklot.
