  • Correction- This is the kalyana-sundareswarar temple.
  • Temple: Built by Kochengat Chozhan, one of the 63 naayanmars. Swami is named as Periyandeswarar, Kalyana Sundarar, Panchavarneswar, Sundara nathar, and Soundara naayakar. Amman is named as Girisundari, Kalyanasundari, Malaiazhagi, and Vanduvaazh kuzhali. The swyambu lingam changes its color five times during daytime as Copper, Light red, Molten gold, Emerald and multicolor. Legend: The lingam has many holes across. Vaalakilya munivar performed thapas as vandu (beetle) in the holes and attained mukthi here. Thirunavukkarasar was blessed by Siva by placing His feet on him. Every devotee is blessed by placing a sataari (as in Vishnu temples). This practice is not found in any Siva temples. Amarneethi naayanar and his wife were also sanctified here. Thirtham: Called Saptha saagaram (seven seas), Kunthi was released from the imprints by bathing in this thirtham on a Masi magham day. Note: According to Bujandar naadi, Sri Maha Kali who was responsible for defending this region against the invasion of Malik Kafoor is glowing with Her divine presence in the South prahaaram of this temple. Worshipping Sri Mahakali with18 arms on Fridays and Ashtami is believed to absolve many doshams of devotees. You may contact Sri S Kannan(Pichai)gurukkal at 04374 222863
