Pedro Soto Alba Nickel plant (Formerly Moa Nickel). Currently operated by the Canadian Sherritt Corp. and a Cuban state-ruled agency, the plant has an annual output of 30,000 tons of nickel plus cobalt. It uses an efficient acid-leaching technology to extract nickel and cobalt from the rich superficial lateritic deposits. The nickel and cobalt are shipped to Sherritt's refinery in Canada for further processing.
