In 1946 the great humanist and traveller, Duke Silvestro Camerini arrived on Ischia. He was searching a place where could create a park in which his passion for botany could be satisfied. He had spent many weeks on Capri and on Ponza a where he had been confined for his political ideas but it was the beauty of the bay of San Montano on Ischia which captured his interest because of its astonishing resemblance to the enchanting Negombo bay of Ceylon. After buying up over fifthy properties, he was able to call the bay his own and to transform it from a cultivate marsh into a flourishing park.
