The Solvay Library was inaugurated in in 1902 as a gift from Ernest Solvay to his friend Emile Waxwiler (a statistician and sociologist). The classical building was formerly a sociological institute. It was abandoned by the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1981 but has since been restored and is used by a company for special events.
