Located in the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in the Sonitpur district with an area of 44.06 sq. kms, it is a part of the Laokhowa-Burachapori ecosystem.
Set in a breathtaking locale with panoramic beauty, the landscape of the sanctuary is a marked by the Himalayan Mountains that dominate the skyline of the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh as well as the undulating, green-carpeted valleys laced by the rippling cascades of hilly springs and rivulets as well as the torrential flow of the mighty Brahmaputra.
Prime habitat includes the One-horned Rhino, Leopard, Tiger, Wild Buffalo, Hog Deer, Otter, Civet Cat, Leopard Cat, Wild Boar and Barking Deer.
With greater importance as a bird sanctuary, it is a paradise for the endangered Bengal Florican, Swamp Patridge, Woodcock, Water Hen, Parakeet, Ferruginous Duck and other migratory birds.
