Disbanded WWII airfield.

Development and testing of the Horten "Flying Wing" gliders and jet aircraft was done at Kirtorf in the late 1930's and the early 1940's.

Comments

  • Later used to burn or destroy old ammunition (and therefore still a dangerous place)
  • Had it's own branch line from mainline.To northwest was Europe's largest ammunition works at Allendorf,now called Stadtallendof.Never known about by Allies even though only about a mile from Kirtorf airfield.Possibly this was why airfield was used to destroy ammunition after the war.
