In 1999, the air terminal was named in honour of the World War I ace Air Vice Marshal Raymond Collishaw CB, DSO & Bar, OBE, DSC, DFC, RAF (1893-1976) who was born in Nanaimo.
He was the highest scoring RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service) flying ace and the second highest scoring Canadian pilot of the First World War.
