Guernsey and Alderney / Sark / Sercq

The freehold of this island belongs to the Barclay brothers who have built a large castle and created impressive gardens.

Frustrated by the fact that the ancient feudal constitution of Sark forbade them from passing the island on to their daughters, they launched an action at the European Court which may lead to the demise of the last feudal government in the world.

  • Frustrated by the fact that the ancient feudal constitution of Sark forbade them from passing the island on to their daughters, they launched an action at the European Court which may lead to the demise of the last feudal government i9n the world.
  • And then got all pissy when the newly elected government refused to pass any of the reforms they wanted. As a result they closed all of their businesses throwing 1/6 the island out of work. Maybe they should have just tried bribing the "tenants" under the old system.
  • And if you want some more irony, the Brothers owned 6 of the Tenantcies what gave them 6 seats on the old parliament. After the elections they only had 5 of their candidates chosen. They were better off just trying to buy out the entire island.
