Château de la Pannonie

France / Midi-Pyrenees / Rocamadour /

Majestic castle with its classical parisian style facade built during the 18th century. In the private courtyard, we can look at a part of the previous fort, built after the Hundred Years War. Before, during the great medieval period of the european pilgrimage of Rocamadour, La Pannonie was a cistercian farm used by the Obazine Abbey to produce food and to welcome pilgrims. But, we can't admire anything about this first fundation, maybe except the well digged into the limestone area.

The private little church has a unic arched nave, covered by stones. Since the 16th century, it was the castle chapel. The sacred monument became parrochial church during the 17th century, when the lord of La Pannonie paid to the building be restaured. At the end of the 19th century, a new prominent choir made an enlargement.

Vast private grounds all around the castle create a peacefull and natural atmosphere, in front of the forest of La Pannonie.

Possible access with guided visits. Open from 15/06 to 30/09, all the week except thuesday.
