Brickmaking began at Ewhurst Works in the late 1940s, though most of the buildings on site date from the 1960s. Ewhurst seems to have closed in the 1980s and has been derelict ever since. Confusingly the neighbouring Smokejacks Works was renamed Weinerberger Ewhurst Works in 2007.
