Built by Empress Mentewab in the early 18th century, the Royal Enclosure is located on the northwest corner of Gonder city. The compound encloses the famous church of Debre Tsehay Maryam (also known as Qusqwam Maryam), still in use; and the ruins of a palace, banquet hall, storage house...etc.
