  In the 1940s my dad, Milford Eugene "Jack" Renfrow worked at a nearby defense plant as heavy equipment operator. In addition, he obtained a restuarant across from the courthouse. After cleaning up and renovating, he re-opened and ran it for a short time and sold out. Trying to orientate myself, is TOWN SQUARE where the old 1940s COURTHOUSE once stood???? Then, shortly afterward, a short distance from the restuarant, around the corner and down the street he opened and ran a "duck pin" bowling alley and short-order eatery. He put up some walls that served as family living qtr's. behind the bowling lanes. My brother and I set pins for bowling customers. Coming to the front near the cashier and standing around while the customers paid for their bowling, I might receive tips of up to 10-cents per line if I did a good job. My younger brother got himself a shoe-shine box and shined shoes out in front of the bowling alley. I attended PLEASANT RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. As I remember, not having been back to Charlestown in over 60-years, it seems Pleasant Ridge Elementary was located where JONITHAN JENNINGS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is located today?????
