Badalgachhi Upazila (Naogaon district) with an area of 213.98 sq km, is bounded by Dhamoirhat and Joypurhat sadar upazilas on the north, Naogaon sadar upazila on the south, Akkelpur on the east, Mahadevpur and Patnitala upazilas on the west. Main river is Little Jamuna.
The location of Badalgachi town is 24.9649102N 88.9036954E. Badalgachhi (Town) consist of 4 mouzas with an area of 3.53 sq km. The town has a population of 3983; male 53.3%, female 46.7%. The density of population is 1128 per sq km. The literacy rate among the town people is 38.7%. It has one dakbungalow.
Badalgachi thana was established in 1807 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of eight union parisads, 247 mouzas, 235 villages.
Archaeological heritage: Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur and Halud Vihara.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 176010; male 51.34%, female 48.66%; Muslim 84.68%, Hindu 12.60%, Tribal 2.56%, Christian 0.10%, Buddhist 0.06%; ethnic nationals include Oraon, Mahali, Santal, Kurmi.
