  • I would like to inform you that “Laghu Haridawar” was very famous being related to the religious sentiments and mythological “Mahabharata”. Pandavas along with their mother were residing on the bank of river Beas during their ‘Vanvass’. During this period, Pandavas neither met with any person nor were they seen by any person (Agyat Vas). Pandavas stayed here for few hours and constructed a 5 gold stairs, but one old lady woke up by the noise of breaking paddy. Pandavas constructed only 2 ½ gold stairs out of the 5 gold stairs. Pandavas also constructed a temple of ‘Ganga Maiya’ on the bank of river Beas. Our ancestors used to cremate dead bodies on the bank of river Beas and the ash immersed in the holy river, Beas. The sole reason was that the Pandavas constructed a temple “Ganga Maiya” and the river was also mixed with the river of Ganga’s and Beas that’s the reason that villagers immerse ashes/aasthis in this river. Its again a belief that by doing so the soul of dead person will rest in peace. It has become customary and mandatory practice over the centuries. There is a strong belief that a temple of ‘Ganga Maiya’ can wash all the sins, if a person takes a dip holy river Beas. Most of the people come to “Laghu Haridwar” to take a dip in this holy river. On some special religious events/occasions, large number of people take dip into holy river. At “Laghu Haridwar” it people can be seen getting paats (prayers) done and taking dip in holy water of Beas river in normal course.
