The Saint Nazaire Raid - Operation Chariot

 Second World War 1939-1945, invisible

A ballsy plan to ram the dry-dock gate with an explosive laden destroyer HMS Campbeltown and damage it beyond repair was hatched by British Amry & Navy Commandos in 1942 when the threat of German Battleships to British supply lines had grown to its most ominous level. This drydock, originally constructed to build the SS Normandie, was the only Atlantic Coast facility controlled by the Germans which could repair their battleships. The German navy was also building a huge 16-pen U-Boat facility inside the dock itself.
With these threats looming large, a floatilla was dispatched from Falmouth on March 26th and made for the port.
