  Institute of Cooperative Management-Kannur(ICMK), better known as ICM, is situated at Parassinikkadavu, a famous pilgrim spot in Kannur District of Kerala. The Institute was established in the year 1992, with primary objective to supplement and support cooperative movement and infuse professionalism in the management and administration of cooperatives up-surging in the state. ICMK acts as a nodal agency for various training, research and consultancy needs of the cooperative institutions and departments in the State. Organizational Set up Our Institute is one among the 19 ICMs functioning under the auspices of National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT), New Delhi. The NCCT, the apex body for cooperative training, is responsible for organizing, monitoring and evaluating the arrangements for cooperative training for employees in the cooperative fold through different ICMs. The Management Committee Chaired by the President of the Kerala State Cooperative Union advises the Administration and Management of the Institute. The committee consists of Twenty Five Members including the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Member of Parliament, and Officers from the different departments and Office bearers of various cooperative institutions. Faculty and Staff The academic strength of the Institute includes Principal, Vice-Principal and Four Faculty Members. Programmes and Activities 1.Higher Diploma in Cooperative Management (HDCM) The Core programme of the Institute is Higher Diploma in Cooperative Management (HDCM), which is conducted with a view to sharpen the analytical and decision making competence of the managers and potential managers of the cooperative sector. Duration of the programme is one year (52 Weeks), consisting of two semesters. During the training period of one year, participants are placed for one-month field placement in any of the cooperative institutions and a two weeks study visit is organized to institutions situated outside Kerala, to make the participants aware of the working of cooperatives across the country. 2.Diploma Programmes The Institute offers three months diploma courses for the employees and officers of different cooperative organizations and departments. Diploma in Cooperative Banking, Diploma in Management of Dairy Cooperatives and Diploma in Management of Industrial Cooperatives are the important diploma programmes conducted by the Institute. 3.Master of Business Administration (MBA) Our Institute has introduced Master of Business Administration (MBA), in collaboration with Kannur University, which is an innovative and remarkable step towards newer heights in academic venture. Accordingly, the ICMK is an extension center of the Department of Management Studies, Kannur University. The duration of the programme is two years consisting of four semesters. Each semester is of 16 weeks duration. There will a summer placement project for a period of 8/10 weeks. The course is under Dual Specialization Scheme. 4.Short-Term Programmes Institute is conducting short-term programmes of two days to two weeks duration to meet the multi-dimensional training requirements of various cooperatives on functional areas of management such as General Management, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Personnel, Law, Banking, Information Technology etc. The Institute organizes seminars, workshops and conferences to discuss the latest issues emerging in the business field. The course modules are structured mainly on Leadership Development (LDP), Management Development (MDP) and Skill Improvement (SIP). The target group normally includes the Leaders (Office Bearers), Chief Executives, Officers and Employees of the different sectors of credit and non-credit cooperative institutions. The target group also includes the Officers and Employees of the different Government Departments such as Cooperatives, Dairy, Fisheries, Coir, Industries etc. The Institute also undertakes need-based training on the request of the cooperatives; mainly the cooperative banks, and conducts the training at their campus for one day or two days duration. Some of the programmes are conducted under the budgeted sanction of the Government and some of the programmes are conducted by the Institute on Fee based with a view to the generation of revenue. Achievements Our Institute has gained reputation and occupied a significant position as one among the best institutes of similar kind engaged in Cooperative Training. The Institute is catering to the multi-faceted training requirements of various Cooperative and Govt. Departments through its quality oriented Training, Research and Consultancy activities.
