The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit is a United Way organization. It aims to serve people who have recently arrived in the United States, and the people who are interested in expressing their own ethnic heritage and learning about the cultures of other nations.

The Institute hosts world-class exhibitions like its International Doll Collection in the Hall of Nations. The collection showcases about 35,000 dolls in ethnic dress and is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
