Pub more commonly known as The Salutation,and many locals nickname it "The Sal".
The building goes back to at least 1360,when it was a Tanners.
It became a pub and was called "The Archangel Gabriel Salutes the Virgin Mary.But when the Puritans came to power and formed the Commonwealth Government in the mid 1600's,the landlord changed the name to "Soldier and Citizen" and so keeping the pub sign of a handshake.It then became known as The Salutation.
The pub serves Real Ale and is well known as a Rock Music Pub.Live acts every Saturday and the landlord allows bands to promote their own show on Thursdays.
