Chikkamagalur (also known as Chickamagaluru) is a town located in the foothills of Bababudangiri range in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town is known for its coffee and tea estates.

Chikkamagaluru literally means "The town of the younger daughter" in the native Kannada language. The town is said to have been given as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the legendary chief of Sakrepatna and hence the name. About 5 km from Chikkamagaluru there is a town called Hiremagaluru which means "The town of the elder daughter", too.

  • We were a team of 11 adults visited to India during 2004, that time we had planned our trip to only travel places in south India,
  • we have started our trip from Mangalur to Chikamgalur this was one of the best places we had a great time, all our team mates have a very positive comment on this town, we been to the hill-stations called the Mullayanagiri this was one of the best places we came across in our over all trip, since Chikamgalur is a town near to these natural surroundings we had planned to stay near to town limits due to the comfort choice, and we stayed in a really nice place at chikamgalur at that time there was one place called DMVilla this was a modern Villa sort of place had a modern amenities, this chikmagalur resorts was our choice for staying 3 nights and roaming around the places near to this town, also we enjoyed our time in kemmanagundi hill station this was again a wonderful place and we had an amazing evening here do check out their website at http://www.dmvilla.com - Danial
