parliament, government, hill, carillon
This most prominent building of the Canadian Parliament is 92.2 metres tall (300 ft) and contains a carillon of 53 bells, some of which are used to play the famous hourly chime. It was built in 1927, following the Great Fire of 1916 which destroyed the original tower.
For many years, there was a law prohibitting construction of buildings which were taller than 46 metres (150 ft), so that the Peace Tower could dominate the skyline. This significantly stifled the growth of downtown until the law was repealed in late 60's.
