This village has Chola period temple in the middle of wetland below the irrigation tank. but this temple is in a state of repair. no idol to worship. But one Kulothunga Chola inscription found and brought to the Vellore Government museum has this village name as Thelaiyur.this record mentions a Mathan chetti had bestowed a area land and constructed a irrigation tank and donated to the Siva temple which was located in the foothill of Sivanathapuram. However, this shrine is no more. This lithic record tells about Athiyur village. Once modern village location was included in the Athiyur . - by M.GANDHI.
