Historic 18 story Modernist style complex designed by New York architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill and built in 1945. Features an eleven-story, 256 room hotel atop a seven-story windowless brick structure which originally housed two department stores, JC Penney and Bond. The stores closed many years ago and the hotel closed in 2008.

The Terrace was the most progressive hotel of its day. The hotel lobby was located on the eighth floor as was a rooftop terrace which was used for outdoor dining in the summer and ice skating in the winter. The penthouse featured a roof garden and dining at the five star Gourmet Room. All hotel furnishings were custom designed and artworks by Saul Steinberg, Joan Miro and Alexander Calder decorated the public areas. In 1956 the property was purchased by the Hilton chain and became known as the Terrace Hilton.
