A restaurant and banquet hall in south St. Louis built to look like a Dutch windmill, complete with turning sails. Built in 1915 by August A. Busch senior at the exact halfway point between Grant's farm and the brewery, he used the grand mill room as his personal dining room for many years while the rest of the restaurant was opened to the general public in 1917.
The exterior of the mill is finished with stones personally picked by Mr. Busch from Grant's farm. In the German and Dutch tradition two storks are mounted atop the chimney for good luck. The foyer and mill room have vaulted ceilings with groined arches that end in stone carved gnomes that were originally exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1889.
From 1984 to 1986 the brewery paid over one million dollars to renovate the mill, carefully having all the tiles, light fixtures, and millwork restored.
The Mill has recently started opening to the public after a stretch of time catering exclusively as a banquet center, and is open from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM daily for breakfast and lunch.
