Following the success of the culinary specialities created in the Bar Gallo, the Gallo Family have decided to launch a new hostelry. The Osteria 'Il Gallo nel Pozzo' occupies the ground floor of an old aristocratic house situated in the heart of the historic centre of Panicale. Its name has a double connotation: 'Gallo' because it is the family surname and it is 'in the Well' because inside the Osteria there is an ancient well (pozzo), no longer visibile, but still existent. The ambience is very welcoming, wooden beams, original exposed stonework mixed with plastered walls painted in a delicate shade of pastel orange, small tables mainly on a mezzanine floor which has views out onto the piazza, and soft background music. The menu offers traditional Umbrian dishes which are freshly prepared daily:
* salads, soups, sliced meats, cheeses and a variety of savoury snacks;
* home-made first courses and main courses with seasonal vegetables;
The ingredients are for the most part organic tomatoes, salads, pulses and lentils including the very special Lake Trasimeno tiny beans, 'fagiolina'. The olive oil used in the preparation of all the dishes is the 'San Sebastiano' extra-virgin olive oil pressed at Panicale's co-operative oil mill. With the first rays of spring sunshine, the Osteria also welcomes you with seating outside in the piazza, adjacent to the fourteenth century fountain, where you will be able to relax while you taste our dishes, enjoying what will surely be a memorable day.
