Northern most inhabited area of Iceland. The Arctic Circle bisects the island so that on the north end one may observe the phenomenon of the midnight sun.

Comments

  • Because of the altitude (~300'), and the movement of the island with respect to the arctic circle, the 'midnight sun' effect can be seen for several 'days' on either side of the summer solstice. BTW, the extreme latitude also means that even the darkest winter nights are not very dark compared to tropical night skies, and the North star, is not nearly so useful for navigation because it is very close to overhead.
