One of the oldest localities of Bangalore. It's well-planned grid is immediately identifiable in any aerial or satellite photograph of Bangalore.

The name Basavanagudi means "Bull Temple": it's named after the Nandi temple on Bull Temple Road.

World famous Sri Sri Uttaradimath and Shankar Math are situated here. If you have never heard of this place then you just did.

Gandhibazaar, one of the few remaining street markets is at the heart of Basavangudi. On the eve of festivals, the street is redolent with the most heavenly fragrances.

Basavangudi is also one of the few remaining areas of Bangalore that have good tree cover.

  • BAVANA GUDI IS THE PLACE BANGALORE WHERE U COULD TURN DEVOTIONAL WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF TEMPLES SUCH AS DODDA GANPATI DEVALAYA N BULL TEMPLE. IT ALOSO HOUSES COMPANIES LIKE BOSCH, FOCUS INFOSYS . IT HAS SOME OF PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGE OF KARNATAKA LIKE BMSCE,NATIONAL COLLEGE.
  • Born in Bull Temple Road 16.7.1949, brought up in its surroundings, educated in Bharatha matha Vidyamandira, Acharya pathashala, Vijaya college. Some body has left out these names. It is saraswathi Vidyamandira not Vidyamandiram as stated. Closely other places like Gavi Gangadhareshwara, Karanji Anjaneya, Kahale Bande(Beaugle Rock), Hanumatharayana gudda, Narahari Rayara Gudda (Mount Joy), Harihara gudda are very famous even today. there is a musical fountain.
  • Basavanaudi is one of the best areas in Bangalore. It is well connected to most of the other areas & near to City Market, Majestic & Hudson Circle. Although i moved to the place only recently, im not new to the area having studied in Mahaveer Jain College ( 2 years ) & BIT engineering college ( 4 years ). The locality is full of trees ( so a cool atmosphere ) and few multi storey buildings. Basavanagudi is known for its fast food outlets. Upahar Darshini, Brahmins coffee bar, Vidhyarthi Bhavan, Adigas, Ice Thunder to name a few. There is also the less famous ( but notably under-rated ) bugglerock, wherein on the weekends there is a musical fountain show. I absolutely love the locality & am proud of being here.
  • I think Basavanagudi is one of the very best places in Bangalore. The roads are even. Any amount of rain comes, this areas always looks clean and neat. I think it is the place where the poeple have God's blessings. Even though so many ares in Bangalore are highly developed, nothing can beat Basavanagudi. Of course, Malleswaram, Rajajinagar and Mahalakshmi are also equally good. But, Basavanagudi is Basavanagudi. I do not want to explain more about it, since people of Banglaore knows about it
  • im from ahmednagar(maharashtra) i have been to bangalore in jan 2007 to meet my girl friend who loved me so much and left my love uncomplete and as was involved in her too much with chatting and thousands of phone calls my life was just moving aorund her calls and chatting so one day i prayed to go that help me to meet her i planed everything and reached bangalore after 1year of love story but unfortunately i gone to basavanaguti i went her home , i met her father mother everybody but not her...bhagwaan ki accha nahi thi shayad...i went to her called but holidays were going on and i had only 3days to stay..i sold my cell to colect money to go to bangalore as im in TY B.sc(AHMEDNAGAR)..and she was in ....college in science.i cudn't meet her its my lifes biggest tragidy...and achivement tooo...that i loved by her... thts why i love bangalore ...i love basavanagudi...

It has everything to offer for a great living for both the young and old...the market place at Gandhi Bazaar that is always at a festive mood; the mini and varied shops for whatever you need including the best experience in window shopping; the many and varied places of worship for the religious minded; gardens and parks including the famous Lalbaug with its wonderful trees, floora and fauna; Shankar Mutt and Ramakrishna Ashram for helping one elevate his spirit and soul; educational institutions in well known schools, colleges including one of the oldest and best engineering institution; Institute of World Culture for the culturally minded; Gayana Samaj for the one interested in fine arts; some of the best eat-out fast-food joints...and many more...if there is one place that can be called as heaven in Bangalore..this is it.

  • It was great to read so many wonderful comments in praise of Basavangudi, the cradle of my infancy and the Amaravathi of my youth. I was born and brought up here and having spent close to two years in California, can safely say that Basavanagudi is the best place in the whole planet!!!!! The attraction was so much that I am back here living happily in the same locality notwithstanding the insane increase in traffic and pathetic road conditions. My best place for jogging was LalBagh i used to get up early in the morning to get fresh smell of the ozone layer in Lalbagh. Although i was away from my home i used to stay in PIPAL TREE PG accomadtaion at VVPuram this place is very ideal for bright students who love each other and share their Happiness and also prepare themselves for life and Mr. Manish who acts as local guardian in this place is very helpful at all times

Dharshani Hotel for food is excelent in this place. For education very good colleges are available in this place. Very good for middle class family to leave in this place. Sri Krishna Kuteera is a place for middle class brahmin. Totally it is a very good place all together.
