The State Marine Park of Parcel Manuel Luís is located in the Parcel de Manuel Luís, in the Atlantic Ocean, 45 nautical miles off the coast of Maranhao and about 100 nautical miles from St. Louis, the state capital in Brazil. Formally linked to the municipality of Cururupu.
Was established by Decree 11,902 of June 11 of 1991, with an area of 45937.9 hectares, with the goal of preserving the fauna and flora and marine reefs of coral.
Former threat to navigation, the parcel is on the largest coral reef in South America. There can be found several species of exotic fish such as parrot fish, the Sargentini and butterfly fish. It is also one of the largest cemeteries in the world of boats, which with nearly 200 sunken vessels, second only to the Bermuda Triangle. However, few people are aware of this underwater paradise.
