This large public house was bombed during the second world war, and rebuilt soon afterwards. Renamed the Sun because people thought the title "Inn" meant they had rooms. This is the point at which the A638 Great North Road splits from its original route, the Roman Ridge. The pub was built on the Ridge itself.
