Kremlin Gas Station (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow / ulitsa Volkhonka
petrol / gas station, interesting place, Art Deco (architecture), listed building / architectural heritage, constructivism (art), revealed object of cultural heritage (Russia), 1930s construction

Unique within the Boulevard Ring, this gas station located at Volkhonka, opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and a stone's throw from the Kremlin. There is a theory that this project was created by the famous architect Alexei Dushkin.

A few years ago it was quite an antique, as in the old Soviet movies. Now instead there are modern machines, but everything else - the roof, pillars, the cashier booth - remains intact.

Only machines from the Kremlin garage are able to fill up at this station, ordinary people can't refuel here. However, they say that the station only has 10 years left: by 2017 there is a plan to erect a building for a Museum of Modern Art.
