  • Fort Peb is situated at a distance of 3-4 km on west side of Neral. This is the most beautiful one-day trek near Mumbai, especially in monsoon. To avoid crowd at hill stations like Matheran, nature lovers must visit this fort. The fort derives it name from the Goddess ‘Pebi’; The fort is also named as ‘VikatGad’ for its supposed shape of the Elephant Headed God, ‘Ganesh’. Historical references clearly indicate that Shivaji Maharaj used the caves on the fort as silos for grain storage.

  • How to reach here. I stay in Ghatkopar.
  • we went to this fort on 7/10/12. from neral go to anandwadi/fanaswadi, which is about 3 km. from this village, cross the stream and move towards 1st electric tower, then to 2nd. from here, you can see the steep gulley and col connecting peb and nakhind. this col is towards right side of the fort. reach to the col and turn left on the ridge. there is small 2-step easy rockpatch. take a traverse keeping fort to lest to reach the big cave. it takes 2-2.5 hrs and height from base is 450mts. after cave, there is a ladder to reach the fort. turn right, and keep moving to south to reach ashram. while returning good option is to go neral matheran rail line which can be reached in an hour.
