The castle is situated at the confluence of the Ostravice and Lučina rivers. The first written document referring to it dates from 1297. An unprofessional attempt at reconstruction took place in the 1980´s, owing to the fact that the land had sunk by 16 metres from mining under the castle. It was re-opened on May 14th, 2004. Today it houses several exhibitions, including the history and development of the city. The lookout tower providesa view of the centre of the city, as well as the Ostravice and Lučina rivers, and Beskydy Mountains.
