The large and important gothic castle was built in early 13th century. to protect the important country trade route leading from Moravia to Poland.
Probably around 1230 gained the castle with surrounding manor Lord Arnold Hugeswagen. Although the neighborhood has been damaged and burnt down in the 15th century, the castle withstood all its conquerors. The greatest importance and glory got the castle in the 16th and 17th during the property of powerful family Žerotín. In that times were Rennaisance conversions and additions made.
During the Thirty Years War the castle was several time occupied by Austrian Imperial troops and the enemy also, suffered large damage and was greatly dilapidated. Later the castle was not repaired again and changed gradually into ruins.
