The history of the castle was built in the 16th century, when it was finally transferred the seat of feudal nobility from medieval fortress Střílky about 1.5 km east of the town, to the newly built castle.
Renaissance castle was completed in 1619 as two buildings with dominant prismatic towers.
In 1624 was the owner family of Lords of Petrvaldsky, which belonged to the aristocratic elite past the White Mountain Battle. The family had been in possession of significant headquarters and villages such as Castle Buchlov, Strílky, Zeravice, Upper and Lower Mostenice, Rostin, Tovacov, Cetechovice and many others. The last owner of this family, Antonin Amand of Petrvald, rebuilt in the Renaissance fortress as a wide pleasant and well-equipped Baroque seat. In his service worked architect Josef Cyrano de Bolleshausu (designer of Baroque reconstruction Strilky Castle as well as local Strilky famous Baroque cemetery) and sculptor Gottfried Fritsche (with the statue of Neptune fountain in the courtyard of the castle and the sculptural decoration on the local cemetery). With the generous building modifications and the acquisition of Chateau corresponds Baroque ornamental garden. Extensive scientific intersts and hobbies by Antonin Amand has been documented by extensive library with numerous books, maps, rich picture gallery, collestion of artistically worked clocks and scientific instruments (e.g. microscopes, telescopes, compasses, ) and the old castle laboratory.
Next owners was the family of Kuenburgs. They extended the castle by two new parts, namely of economic and residential character for the staff. It originated the complex of buildings consisting of three adjacent courtyards. The chateau was extended on natural landscape park, which surrounded the original Baroque ornamental garden. In the castle park was built garden house accompanied by a winter garden situated in the middle of the building.
The castle was bought in 1885 by Count of Herberstein. At that time were the buildings enriched with modern historical events, which impressed the castle still determining form.
Last owner was the family of Zdenek Cerny. Past 1945 was the castle nationalizated and adapted as the regional children's home.
After 1989 the castle was returned in the restitution to last owners family and in autumn of 1994 was purchased to the Foundation of the living light Maháprabhudíp satsang and it is unaccessible for wide public. It has been very sad and great unfair disadvantage, that close company of some few devouts people denied the acces to the significant and valuable national historical and architectonical monument for the wide part of the society.
