Summersville Regional Medical Center opened it’s doors to serve the community in March, 1968. Originally it was an Extended Care Facility known as the Summersville Convalescent Home, operating as such for a period of approximately two years, then later being converted to also include hospital care as well as obstetrical care, and the name was changed to Summersville Regional Medical Center.

Currently the hospital has 53 acute beds and 52 extended care beds and employs more that 360 people.
