This 8 mile section of I-70 between Valencia and Maple Hill roads west of Topeka, KN was the first segment of the Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways to be poured and then opened to traffic. The concrete was poured on September 26, 1956 and the road segment opened November 14, 1956 as part of US 40.
